The hostel’s position on the peninsula means you can easily explore both the old city charm and the modern skyline views that make Chongqing famous. You know what’s really convenient? The proximity to Hongyadong, that incredible stilted building complex that looks like something out of a Miyazaki film. Most guests figure out pretty quickly that they can walk to the Yangtze River waterfront in about ten minutes, which explains why couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways.

The rooms at Dameng Riverview International Youth Hostel actually live up to that “riverview” promise — well, at least the ones facing the right direction do. I’d definitely request a river-facing room when booking because the Yangtze views, especially at sunset, are genuinely spectacular. Transportation from here is ridiculously easy — there’s a light rail station within walking distance, and Chongqing’s famously chaotic but efficient public transport system becomes your gateway to the entire city. What really sold me on the area, though, is the food scene right outside your door. You’re in prime hotpot territory (this is Chongqing, after all), and there are countless local restaurants where you can get an authentic meal without the tourist markup. The street food vendors along Jiefang East Road serve up some of the best xiaomian noodles I’ve had, and they’re open until pretty late.

For couples especially, there’s something romantic about watching the river traffic from your window while being steps away from the city’s best dining and nightlife. It’s that sweet spot where you get upscale comfort without the upscale price tag.

  Ottima posizione, comodissima per visitare la città. Struttura pulita, camere accoglienti e letti comodi con privacy. Vista spettacolare sulla città dalla terrazza. Era il giorno del mio compleanno e lo staff mi ha festeggiata con una sorpresa. Ottimi consigli di viaggio dei ragazzi che gestiscono l’ostello!
