InterContinental Chongqing Raffles City by IHG Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the InterContinental Chongqing Raffles City by IHG, you’re immediately struck by how this five-star property manages to feel both grand and surprisingly welcoming. The lobby sits high above Chongqing‘s bustling streets, and honestly, the views alone are worth the visit — you can see the Yangtze and Jialing rivers converging right below. What really caught my attention was how the staff seemed to anticipate everything without being intrusive, which is exactly what you want when you’re dealing with jet lag or the sensory overload that comes with this incredible city.
Location & Getting Around
The hotel’s position in Yuzhong District is actually perfect if you want to experience the real Chongqing. You’re right in the heart of the peninsula where the two rivers meet, which means you can walk to the old cable car station or catch a boat along the river without any hassle. I mean, couples consistently rate this location nearly perfect for good reason — there’s something romantic about watching the city lights reflect off the water from your room at night. The fact that there’s parking available is a huge bonus too, since navigating Chongqing’s mountainous streets can be… well, let’s just say it’s an adventure.
The Luxury Experience
What sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to create genuine luxury without the stuffiness you sometimes get at high-end hotels. The rooms are spacious by any standard, but especially impressive for a city where real estate is at such a premium. You know what I really appreciated? The way they’ve incorporated local design elements — subtle nods to Chongqing’s industrial heritage mixed with contemporary elegance. The bathrooms are particularly well-done, with those deep soaking tubs that actually fit a full-sized person (trust me, this matters after a long day exploring the city’s endless stairs).
Dining & Amenities
The breakfast spread here is honestly one of the most comprehensive I’ve encountered in China. They’ve got everything from traditional congee and dim sum to American classics and continental options — basically, whatever you’re craving at 7 AM, they’ve probably got it covered. The restaurant spaces feel sophisticated without being intimidating, and the service strikes that perfect balance between attentive and respectful. I actually found myself lingering over coffee longer than usual, just watching the river traffic below while planning my day.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something special about staying somewhere that genuinely enhances your experience of a city rather than just providing a place to sleep. The InterContinental Chongqing Raffles City does exactly that — it gives you a front-row seat to one of China’s most dynamic cities while wrapping you in the kind of comfort that makes you want to extend your stay. The combination of that unbeatable location, consistently excellent service, and the luxury touches that actually matter (like those river views and the quality of the linens) creates an experience that feels both indulgent and authentic. When you’re exploring a city as intense and fascinating as Chongqing, having this kind of refined home base makes all the difference.

What could be improved: The beds were very hard and firm.Helene from United Kingdom – 9 February 2025 (9/10)
Best location in Chongqing
What could be improved: Cold in the room, front desk can really speak EnglishMay from Singapore – 21 January 2025 (10/10)
I have left some things behind after check out, to my surprise the hotel had it well pack and labelled it. I was able to retrieve my items after returning to the hotel after few days later.
Tiffany from Australia – 8 January 2025 (10/10)
Fantastic views, the lobby isn't on the ground floor so even the lobby has amazing views. Location is fantastic, a huge mall just downstairs, don't even need to go outside. 15mins walk to hongyadong, 30mins walk to jiefangbei square. Room was really spacious and the views were excellent!
What could be improved: Nothing!Florence from Singapore – 4 January 2025 (8/10)
Nice grand hotel with excellent view
Typical of a 5 star international hotel
Lack the personal touch as in smaller hotel
What could be improved: NoneDchua from Malaysia – 2 January 2025 (9/10)
Facilities, countless restaurants for dinner, and location (with connecting malls)
What could be improved: Reception staff at the lobby was too cold and always busy with their computers, twice I had to stand waiting to check-in or enquiry about the hotel, without anyone attended to me promptly. There was even a guy wandering behind the front desk, overseeing the reception staff without even looking at me to ask if I need anything, not once, but twice. I have had better and warm reception in nearby hotel.Christoph from United Arab Emirates – 27 December 2024 (10/10)
Excellent guest service (the best I‘ve seen in China), great location, mega cool building
Xiaofeng from Canada – 15 December 2024 (10/10)
Great location. Close to attractions and cruise terminals. Room was clean and comfortable. Breathtaking view from the window. Lots of choices for breakfast. Plus there is a shopping mall on the lower floors of the building. Convenient for both shopping and dining.
What could be improved: Nothing I can think ofChor from Singapore – 3 November 2024 (9/10)
Wonderful, modern and near all major attractions.
What could be improved: The concierge was nowhere to be located when we arrived, our arrival being 3 am and we were very tired. Took us a while to locate the check in lobby which is on a much higher level.Paul from United Kingdom – 27 September 2024 (9/10)
The very quintessence of an international chain hotel, with the very best that IHG can showcase: opulent design, architectural drama, jaw-dropping views, charming staff and faultless service. The breakfasts were astonishing and our light supper at Shua quite delicious
What could be improved: Obviously not one for people who prefer an individualised, boutique hotel experience. The predictability of the IHG experience which is a key attraction of chain hotels in its class can also become its downfall. As with much in life, it’s a matter of horses for courses
