Chongqing Milky Way Hotel Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Chongqing Milky Way Hotel, you immediately sense you’ve found something special in the heart of Chongqing. This four-star property sits right on Datong Road in the Yu Zhong district — honestly, you couldn’t ask for a better spot to explore the city. The lobby has this understated elegance that feels welcoming rather than intimidating, and the staff actually seems genuinely happy to see you arrive.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about this location — you’re literally in the center of everything, but it doesn’t feel chaotic. Datong Road puts you within walking distance of major shopping areas and local eateries that tourists often miss. The parking situation is refreshingly stress-free since the hotel offers it for free, which is honestly a godsend in a busy city like this. I mean, couples consistently rate this location a 9.4 out of 10, and after staying here, I totally get why.

The Room Experience

The room itself strikes that perfect balance between modern comfort and local character. You know what impressed me most? The attention to detail in the furnishings and the way the windows frame the city views. The beds are genuinely comfortable — not just hotel-marketing comfortable — and the bathrooms are well-designed with good water pressure. Air conditioning works efficiently, which you’ll definitely appreciate during Chongqing’s humid summers. Each room features premium bedding and thoughtfully curated amenities that enhance your stay.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast buffet here actually exceeded my expectations. They serve a solid mix of Asian dishes alongside some Western options, so you’re not stuck with just toast and coffee if you want something more substantial. The congee is particularly good, and they have fresh fruit that’s properly ripe (you’d be surprised how rare that is at hotel buffets). The restaurant area gets busy around 8 AM, so I’d suggest heading down a bit earlier if you prefer a quieter start to your day. The dining team takes pride in sourcing quality ingredients for every meal service.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both professional and personal. The 8.6 guest rating reflects what you’ll experience — solid service without any pretense, clean facilities that work as advertised, and a location that makes exploring Chongqing genuinely enjoyable rather than exhausting. It’s the kind of hotel where you’ll sleep well, start your day properly fed, and step outside ready to dive into one of China’s most dynamic cities. For the price point, you’re getting excellent value in a spot that puts the best of Chongqing right at your doorstep. Whether you’re visiting for business or leisure, this hotel delivers consistent quality and authentic hospitality.

Reviews of Chongqing Milky Way Hotel

  • Kooi from Malaysia – 14 April 2025 (9/10)

Very close to Liberation Monument (Jiefangbei).
We used the travel agency in the hotel to arrange two day tours plus our 8 day visit to Chengdu. Very satisfied and happy about it.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Sanjaymon from India – 29 March 2025 (9/10)

    Value for money

  • Tan from Malaysia – 16 March 2025 (9/10)

    Friendly staff, good location

What could be improved: Outside wall of the hotel building still under renovation

  • Jack from United States – 27 February 2025 (9/10)

Great location, close to Subway and shopping.

What could be improved: There was construction in the neighborhood

  • Juan from Hong Kong – 6 January 2025 (9/10)

The hotel is excellent value for money, and the location is great. The hotel is within walking distance from the Food Street and Central Plaza, and the Linjiangmen station in Line Two connects very well with the airport and train station.
This hotel offers a buffet breakfast, as they mainly receive Chinese tourists, but you are in China, so make sure to enjoy their cuisine, and you will do fine. When we visited in Dec 2024, they had fried rice, noodles, dumplings, sausage, noodles station, boiled eggs, fried eggs, cereal, bread, salad and fruits, juice, black tea and coffee.

Make sure to download WeChat Pay and Baidu Maps to have data; you will need it for everything. As well as to write down the name of the hotel in Chinese. It's easy to locate because the street address is bilingual, but the main sign is only in Chinese. It's a fun experience.
One important thing to know is that you can actually pay with your Visa or Mastercard for the hotel on arrival. You will notice that both cards are not used in other places, but this hotel accepts them, which we find very convenient.

The rooms are perfect. Some people complain that rooms are a bit old, which is part of the charm of being in China.

I will happily go back to the same hotel again.

What could be improved: Here, I'm being picky, but the only thing we didn't like was the coffee for breakfast. My wife and I enjoy strong coffee in the mornings, mainly sugary machine-made. However, there are three coffee chains just 2 minute walk from the hotel, so there is nothing to worry about if you also like your coffee strong without sugar.
Another thing is that it is still common for people to smoke in close spaces in China. So you will feel a bit of a cigarette smell in the corridors, but it's all good.

  • Rob from New Zealand – 22 December 2024 (9/10)

Very spacious room. It was great to have a coffee table and chairs to sit at for a few beers after a long day's walk. Fairly close to attractions and metro stations. Staff were friendly.

What could be improved: A few of the features were a bit dated, but this was ok. Everything worked fine. It did take a bit of trying to get the wifi working, though.

  • Teyhan from Australia – 3 December 2024 (8/10)

Great location. Huge room was very comfortable however just a little dated but that was some of the charm. Good breakfast but not many western options.

What could be improved: Small old TV . Bathroom needs updating.

  • En from Malaysia – 7 November 2024 (7/10)

The room is big and good location.

What could be improved: No aircond.
    Breakfast is repeat

  • Jefry from Malaysia – 21 October 2024 (7/10)

A walking distance from Linjiangmen metro station (Exit 2). Nearby to Hongyadong (Hongya Cave) and Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street. There's a small halal restaurant located in alley behind this hotel as well.

What could be improved: Hotel name sign is in Mandarin only. It might be difficult for a non-mandarin speaker to find this hotel for the first time.

  • Jorge from Spain – 18 September 2024 (7/10)

    Hotel Chongqing Room 911
Rest: The air conditioning worked well, no noise from outside.
Room: Comfortable bed with two pillows of different consistencies. Spacious bathroom with a bathtub.
    Cleanliness: Everything was clean.
    WiFi: Not used.
Breakfast: Oriental style, but very complete.
Location: Good, with a nearby metro.
Notes: Very old establishment, but well-maintained. The front desk staff do not speak English, but they try to help by translating with an app.
